Duncan Harrison Jr., is known on a local and national level as a strong advocate for empowering new leaders to engage in the political process.
Recognized for his service to the community, his heartfelt efforts have empowered and expanded the perspectives of many individuals. He is a man at the forefront of youth leadership and community empowerment. Most of all, he is a current, contemporary voice of inspiration.
Duncan lectures and provides training for high school students, college students, and working professionals on the importance in participating in formal leadership platforms like student government association, civic groups or local level politics. Additionally, Duncan teaches strategies to perform effectively in their elected position for the benefit of their constituency, respective institutions and the broader community.
In his professional life, Duncan is the Associate Executive Director of UIH Family Partners. UIH is a nationally-recognized pioneer in the emerging field of fatherhood programs. Duncan has also served as a seasonal police officer for the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, job developer with Mercer Street Friends and case manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters. More recently, he served as the Center Coordinator for the Rutgers T.E.E.M. Gateway Youth Education and Employment Success Center, an initiative led by Mayor Cory Booker of Newark, NJ, to reduce the dropout rate among youth.
A native Trentonian, Duncan received his Bachelor of Arts in sociology with a focus on criminal justice from Delaware State University in May 2007. He went on to receive his Master’s in Public Administration from Bernard M. Baruch College, City University of New York as a National Urban Fellow. In addition, Duncan worked on urban sustainability issues as a fellow with Green For ALL. He intends to pursue his doctoral degree in public administration. Duncan is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Duncan is married to Antoinette Harrison and they have one son, Duncan III and two daughters, Vanessa and Victoria.
